Mark Parent (Conservative, Kings-Hants) is an academic, clergy, author, and former MLA for Kings North. As Minister of the Environment for the Province of Nova Scotia, Parent was instrumental in bringing in the Environmental Goals and Sustainable Prosperity Act, the first legislation to address climate change in the province. He also served as Vice-Chair of the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy. Parent has been a strong advocate for land conservation, recognized by the Nature Trust of Nova Scotia and other conservation agencies, and is a champion of local, sustainable agriculture. He holds a Ph.D. from McGill University.
