Senator Rosa Galvez with PIE Program Manager and Year 2 Interns Kirsten, Tesicca and Alison

PARLIAMENTARY INTERNSHIP

The GreenPAC Parliamentary Internship for the Environment is Canada’s premier internship program for emerging environmental leaders on Parliament Hill.

Since 2018, in partnership with Sustainability Network, GreenPAC has offered outstanding young leaders, aged 18-30, the chance to gain paid, invaluable training and experience alongside some of Canada’s top environmental champions in Ottawa.

Each year from September to June, interns work full-time in the Parliament Hill office of a Member of Parliament (MP) with a proven record of environmental commitment. Reflecting GreenPAC’s commitment to nonpartisanship, host MPs come from every major national political party. Interns gain a deep, day-to-day understanding of the federal government, becoming well-versed in policy research, legislative affairs, communications and constituency work, while supporting the work of leading changemakers. Outside the office, interns take part in a suite of leadership and professional development programming, including fireside chats with experts from the public, private and nonprofit spheres. Over the course of the program, Interns receive a stipend totalling $25,000 CDN.

GreenPAC Interns are selected through a competitive application process. Unlike many other internship programs, GreenPAC recognizes that leadership takes many forms. As such, there is no minimum level of education required to apply. We invite candidates who have demonstrated leadership in any relevant area and have previously welcomed interns with backgrounds in everything from political science and environmental studies to health, economics, agriculture, business, and social justice.

NATHAN CULLEN

MP for Skeena-Bulkley Valley

2004 - 2019

“Many are the programs that try to give young Canadians the experiences they need to change the world – few actually deliver and GreenPAC stands above all the rest. Outstanding candidates are paired up with Members of Parliament who are engaged in some of the most important environmental efforts on the national level. I can only try to imagine what these exceptional young people I’ve seen move through the program will accomplish in their lives. This is a program very much worth supporting.”

KIRSTEN SNIDER

INTERN

2019 - 2020

“While I have volunteered and worked to champion the issues I cared most about, I always felt I wanted to do more. The challenge for me was knowing how to get there. My internship with GreenPAC gave me the confidence I needed to seize new opportunities, make connections with other environmental champions and get an inside look of what it takes to lead in politics.

TESICCA TRUONG

“Working in Minister Joyce Murray’s office was an invaluable way to learn from an ardent  environmentalist how to systemically advance a sustainability agenda through strategy,  determination, and persistence.”

THE HON. MICHAEL CHONG

“The GreenPAC internship program provided top-notch capacity that helped me advance environmental initiatives on the Hill.”

JENICA ATWIN

“As a first time MP, the insights, contributions and level of teamwork provided were invaluable. It is clear that GreenPAC carefully selects qualified, passionate individuals to participate in the program and my team and I are extremely grateful. The work of our Hill and constituency offices were greatly enhanced and I look forward to working with GreenPAC again to continue the mandate of infusing environmental leadership in Canadian politics.”
