Summary

Jessica Bell became founding executive director of transit advocacy organization TTCRiders in 2011, after nearly a decade as an organizer in the environmental justice community. With the Rainforest Action Network from 2003 to 2006, she supported successful efforts by the Haida First Nation and the Grassy Narrows First Nation to stop unwanted logging on their land. From 2007 to 2008, she was co-director of the California Food and Justice Coalition, and in 2009, she was an organizer with Climate Action Network campaigning for Canada to sign onto a binding climate treaty. As a small business owner from 2010 to 2015, she delivered training to a list of non-profits that included Greenpeace Canada and USA, the Sierra Youth Coalition, and the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition.

Full Environmental History

2003-2006 - Organizer with Rainforest Action Network, where she supported the work of the Haida First Nation and the Grassy Narrows First Nations to successfully stop unwanted logging on their land.

2007-2008 - Co-director of the California Food & Justice Coalition (CFJC), where she worked on grassroots initiatives to develop and support an equitable and sustainable food system. She helped CFJC secure federal funding for anti-hunger programs and local farmers, as well as help found an Oakland Food Policy Council and convince Berkeley to come up with a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its food system.

2009 - Organizer with Climate Action Network, where she campaigned for Canada to sign onto a binding and meaningful climate treaty.

2010 - Campaigns and Communications Representative in the Toronto & York Region Labour Council, where she helped build blue-green alliances between labour and environmental groups.

2010-2015 - Small business owner, where she provided training to non-profit organizations including Greenpeace USA, Greenpeace Canada, Sierra Youth Coalition, and the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition.

2011-present - Co-founder and executive director of TTCriders. TTCriders is an transit advocacy organization that campaigns for an affordable world-class public transit system. Since its founding, Jessica worked with TTCriders to secure more funding for the TTC, two hour fares, a low income pass, and a cheaper UP Express.
