WHAT ARE YOU UP TO NOW?
I work as Policy Analyst at Shared Services Canada. I'm looking to improve the hybrid work experience in the public service as part of the Chief Technology Officer Branch. We're doing engagement to understand public servants' pain points with technology in this new and changing work environment. I got into this role because I personally struggled with accessibility and accomodations during the shift to remote work in the pandemic, so I'm hoping to be able to make it easier for everyone in general! Other than that, just trying to be awesome every day!
Working for the public service, getting a handle on prioritizing my mental and physical health as well as being an advocate for it! Becoming a cat owner, being supportive of friends, colleagues, and family during the COVID-19 pandemic, and integrating into the Ottawa community!
HIGHLIGHT FROM THE INTERNSHIP
I met some awesome leaders in the environmental and political space, who walked the talk and cared for their staffers as much as the work that they do. I sat in on some cool meetings, such as one on a reserve a few hours north of the National Capital Region, in the Pontiac riding. I developed an understanding of the highs and lows of politics. I met some other awesome interns!
HOW DID THE INTERNSHIP HELP YOU GET WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?
The internship helped me learn that my personality is not necessarily suited for high stress environments, which was such an important lesson for me. It made me realize that I can still make a difference even if I'm not going into politics. It is always better to be able to put yourself before your work, and that may mean changing your path to find something that works better with your strengths. I am very happy with what I do now, and still feel like it makes an impact.
