Lenore Zann (Liberal, Cumberland-Colchester) has been a vocal champion of government action to address environmental racism. As an MLA in Nova Scotia, Zann served in a number of portfolios, including Speaker of the House and critic for the Environment, Indigenous Affairs and Status of Women. She further advocated on issues from fracking to the spraying of glyphosate, green jobs and action on climate change. Since being elected as an MP in 2019, she has continued to work with academia, local communities and across parties to raise awareness and bring forward legislation in response to the disproportionate impacts of environmental degradation on Nova Scotia’s black and First Nations communities. Her Private Member’s bill to Redress Environmental Racism would be the first of its kind in North America.
